  • Are there any nearby attractions?

Yes! Many campers use our RV park as a home base while they visit Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. Lake Meredith is a hidden oasis featuring 200-foot canyons and beautiful flowers and wildlife. At Lake Meredith, you can go hiking, boating, kayaking, fishing, off-roading, and hunting. Feel free to bring your own boat or rent one from the park’s vendor. There are no fees associated with boating on Lake Meredith, but remember to always wear a lifejacket and to leave no trace. The most popular time to visit the lake for water activities is from May to September. Lake Meredith also offers an abundance of hiking trails for all levels from easy to strenuous. If fishing is more your thing, the lake has bass, catfish, crappie, trout, and walleye. If you’re visiting the lake in the fall, be sure to check out the hunting grounds where you can hunt mule deer, white-tailed deer, dove, teal, turkey, quail, and pheasant. Learn more about the hunting season and regulations here

In addition to Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, there are several other nearby attractions and excellent restaurants. We recommend stopping by Jesse’s Burritos or El Rancho Mexican Cafe for some delicious food. Main Street is where you’ll find all of the local shops, grocery stores, and eateries.  About thirty minutes away from our RV park is the Battle of Adobe Walls - White Buffalo Hunters historical site. If you’re a history buff, you’ll love this peaceful and secluded area where you can immerse yourself in local history.

For more history, stop by the Alibates Flint Quarrie. Here you can go on an excellent guided tour and learn about the Native Americans who lived on the Texas Plains and used Alibates Flint for 13,000 years. The Alibates Flint was used by mammoth hunters as a place to get the best stone for their tools. Alibates flint was used for spear points to hunt the imperial mammoth before the Great Lakes were formed. The colorful flint has yet to lose its value and usefulness.

Alibates Flint Quarries was the only national monument in the state of Texas until 2013 when the Military Working Dog Teams National Monument was created. Alibates Flint Quarries is located near and managed together with Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. The popular guided tour includes a moderate 2-mile hike and reservations are highly recommended.  In addition to a self-guided museum, the Visitor Center also offers the following:

    • An award-winning film about Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument
    • Jr. Ranger Program and activities
    • Mesquite Trail- an easy self-guiding trail
    • Alibates Gardens--self-guiding tour with themed gardens
    • Certified Monarch Butterfly Waystation
